Eugene L. Thomas, 73, of Ulster, PA (Burlington Twp.) passed away at home with family by his side on Saturday morning, August 11, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Gene was born on March 3, 1939 in Sayre, a son of the late Raymond and Lena (Seymour) Thomas.

A devoted husband and father, Gene married the former Linda Bradford on Oct. 4, 1969 in East Troy.  He was a“jack of all trades” type, a carpenter and handyman.  In earlier years, he worked at Trayers Manufacturing in Elmira, and later for Calkins Auto and Jesse Stryker’s Auto both of Troy.

Gene was very meticulous and took great pride in detailing cars.  He enjoyed playing horse shoes, metal detecting and collecting Lionel Trains.  He also was a great fan of Nascar’s Mark Martin.

Surviving are his wife Linda; children, Gary Thomas (Terri Heath) of Endicott, Dan Thomas (Alex Haver) of Germany and Sharlene (Keith) Wagner of Luthers Mills; grandchildren, Nesa and Kira Thomas; a brother, Dale (Shirley) Thomas of Canton; a brother-in-law, David (Elizabeth) Bradford of Gouverneur, NY; nieces, nephews and many special friends.

He was predeceased by his beloved dogs, Sylvester and Phoebe.

Friends may call 11 – 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr. in Canton.  Chaplain Richard Davis will officiate the funeral service at 1 p.m..  A private burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Troy, PA.  Memorials in Gene’s name may be made to Towanda Memorial Hospice, 91 Hospital Dr. Towanda, PA 18848.  Online condolences may be shared at   www.pepperfuneralhomes.com

It will be the little things
that you will remember,
the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem
hard right now,
it will be the memories
of these little things
that help to push
away the pain
and bring the smiles
back again.

Words, however kind,
can't mend your heartache:
but those who care and
share your loss wish you
comfort and peace of mind.

Linda and Family:

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Gene. I had no idea that he had cancer. Just remember he is not suffering now and is in a better place. I know that it will be hard without him at your side but you have many wonderful memories of him. So look to the Lord for your comfort and all your beautiful memories.

Bod Bless

Dear Linda and family,

Gene will always have a place in our hearts. He was like family to us and we loved him as one of our family. We have so many special memories of the happy times we spent together playing cards, going camping or just getting together. We are so sorry for your loss and may God be with you all.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand ay my grave and cry.
I am not there.
I did not die.

Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to all of you!

Dear Linda,Sharlene and Family,

May our Blessed Lord sustain you all in this time of loss.

I have only had the privilege of knowing Gene for a short while,as well as some of the family. I meet many people in these circumstances, but not all can convey the sense of love, devotion, dedication and care for their loved one as you have. I pray that this knowledge will bring some comfort to you in your time of grief and sorrow.

Love and Blessings,

Richard+
