Leon “Lee” Shedden, 84, life-time resident of Windfall, PA, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, May 6, 2017 at his home.

Born March 10, 1933 at the family’s home on their dairy farm near Windfall, PA, Leon Fred Shedden was last surviving of eight children in the family of the late Fred and Lou (Hawthorne) Shedden.  He attended the Windfall School and graduated from Troy High School in 1951.  On Oct. 23, 1953, Leon married the former Jean Carolyn Ayres at Alba’s First Christian Church.  They shared 55 wonderful years together and raised five daughters.  He now joins his beloved Jean who predeceased him on Jan. 8, 2009.  Leon was a member of Windfall’s United Methodist Church and a 65-year member of the Windfall Grange 257.  Blessed with a strong work ethic throughout life, work always came first at the Shedden home.   Leon remained active and his memory engaged right up to the time of his death.

In addition to dairy farming, another calling in Lee’s life was his great respect for the ways of nature.  He was a very knowledgeable outdoorsman, hunter and a true steward of the land.  Leon, as well as his brothers, will be lovingly remembered for the many priceless insights and experiences passed on to the next generations.   While Leon enjoyed all kinds of hunting, he was well known for his deep passion for black bear hunting.  Regardless of the time of year, any conversation with others seldom took place without mentioning something about bears or stories of bear hunting.   During his lifetime of hunting seasons, Lee not only successfully tagged a number of bear but he also played a huge part in family hunts when many other bear were taken.

Surviving are his children; Carolyn (Ron) Yanchuk of Troy, Barbara (Roger) Kingsley of Columbia Cross Roads, Diane Shedden and Connie (Marty) West all of Granville Summit and JoAnn (Rich) Spencer of Erin, NY, eight grandchildren; Bradley Yanchuk, Jenny Alderfer, Julie Kingsley, Blake Carlson, Danielle Carlson, Morgan West, Walker West and Devin Spencer, seven great grandchildren; Savannah, Jacob, Jessie, Haven, Carly, Auden and most recently, Leon James and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Jean and five sisters; Lillian Cole, Marcella Shedden, Gertrude Wright, Neva McMurray and infant Elaine Shedden and two brothers; Lial and Lloyd Shedden.

Calling hours are 11 – 1 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Pepper Funeral Home 578 Springbrook Dr. in Canton.  Rev. Jasper Smith will officiate the funeral service at 1 p.m. followed by burial in Windfall Cemetery.  Consider a memorial in Mr. Shedden’s name to the Windfall United Methodist Church, c/o 1204 Redington Ave. Troy, PA 16947.  Please share memories and condolences at: www.pepperfuneralhomes.com

Dear Leon Shedden family: Sorry to hear of the loss of a good man and friend and classmate (1951). Every class reunion we enjoyed hearing his stories of the fun we had in the past. Leon and Jean were a wonderful couple and good people and had great successful children. We will miss Leon this July 27th reunion at the Troy Vets. May you all find much peace and blessings in your wonderful memories of your parents. Ed and Judie Merritt - Chattanooga TN 37421

Shedden family, I am so sorry for your loss of Leon. He was such a great guy and I always enjoyed chatting with him. I have wonderful memories of him and your mom at the farm and always enjoy hearing stories about the Windfall boys from Dad. Leon may be gone but the great legacy he has left behind with all of your wonderful families will be treasured for years to come. My deepest sympathy. Deb (Ayres) Hickok
