Dennis S. Perry, 73, of Canton, PA passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Guthrie’s Troy Community Hospital.

Born October 8, 1943, in Elmira, NY, Dennis Stuart Perry, “Denny” to family and friends was a son of the late Ernest “Shorty” and Helen (Packard) Perry.  He was a 1961 graduate of Canton High School.  Denny served in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea for one year and later served with the active Army Reserves until 1995.  On July 9, 1966, he married the former Barbara Watkins in the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ).  Denny was employed as head of security for Ward Manufacturing in Blossburg until retiring in 2014.  A great fan of all Canton sports, he also was his children’s biggest supporter for their interests in school activities and sports. He took great pride in spending time with his beloved grandchildren.  Denny was a PIAA Football official and would often be asked to umpire baseball games.  He assisted with Little League and the Teener Baseball Programs, coached Pop Warner Football and was Canton’s Varsity Basketball Coach for several years.  He followed the NY Giants, NY Knicks and LA Dodger Teams.  Denny also was interested in history and was quite a history buff, he especially enjoyed anything military. He was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge No. 429.

Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Barbara, two sons; Devin (Andrea) Perry of Thomasville, NC and Damon “Boo” (Laurie) Perry of Canton, four grandchildren; Logan Perry, Justin Perry, Kayla Parker and Addison Perry, two sisters-in-law, Barb Perry of Canton and Cheri Case of Troy and a brother-in-law, Don Chilson of Leroy, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Joseph Perry, stepmother, Gerry Perry and a sister-in-law, Linda Chilson.

Calling hours are 10 – 11:30 A.M. Friday, June 30, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton. Rev. Glen Landis will officiate the memorial and committal services to celebrate Denny’s life at 11:30 with military honors accorded.  A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Dear Barb, So Deeply sorry for your loss. DENNY was along with Bill Hansell the best friends I had in school. Denny and I had sports and we could connect so easily with tricky plays. My thanks go to him and his Mom for putting me up for the nights after late night away games. Having been away so long in my career I feel like I missed out in some ways. I am so proud to see how he carried out principles he stood for family, children, relatives and Canton High School and many others. If I get back to Canton I will definitely get in touch if not before. My prayers have already gone out for Denn, you and family.
Love Lynn

Damon & Perry family,

I am so sorry to hear of passing of your dad. I am sure there are a lot of people that have memories like I do, but I have thought of him many times over the years because he was so influential to me in my Little League years. A lot of the way I played the game of baseball and now coach my son and his teammates are a lot to do with how he taught me the game. I had some good coaches in my playing career, but he was the best. My prayers are with you and your family during this time. God Bless!
