Eleanor Augustine, 89, long-time resident of Blossburg, PA passed away Thursday morning, October 5, 2017, at Broad Acres in Wellsboro following a brief stay.
Born June 13, 1928 in Morris Run, she was one of six children of the late Joseph, Sr. and Agnes (Andrzejewski) Bubacz.  She was married to Walter Augustine for 61 years before his passing on Apr. 11, 2008.
Eleanor enjoyed a strong work ethic all her life.  Her first place of employment was the Corning Glass Factory in Wellsboro. She also worked at Canton’s Canford Manufacturing for several years in the 1970’s then retired.  But mostly, she dedicated her life to her family.  Eleanor found much happiness spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as they all were her pride and joy.  She was the heart of the family and will be lovingly remembered and missed dearly.  Eleanor enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and listening to Polka music.  She was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Parish in Blossburg.  Her family extends a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Broad Acres for the wonderful care given to her the four weeks she was there.  Also, a very special thank you to Dr. Christopher Fucito of Elmira’s Guthrie Family Practice and Dr. Waheed of Pine City Guthrie Cardiology for their excellent care and support these last few years.

Surviving are four children; Sandra (John) Makowiec of Wellsburg, Dr. Raymond (Mary) Augustine of Mansfield, Rose Augustine of Elmira and Tom (Amy) Augustine of Blossburg; her sister, Mary Stratton of Wellsboro’s Green Home, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband Walter, she was predeceased by four siblings; Dorothy Bubacz in 2017, Vincent Bubacz 1985, Chester Bubacz in 1975 and Joseph Bubacz, Jr. in 1931.

Calling hours are 1 – 2 P.M. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Zwicharowski Funeral Home, 314 Granger St.  Blossburg.  The Funeral Mass will be held 10 A.M. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blossburg with Rev. Bryan Wright serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial to Blossburg Fire and Ambulance Assoc., 324 Main St. or to Blossburg Memorial Library, 307 Main St. both in Blossburg, PA 16912.

Dear Augustine Family,
This is such a painful time for you. Losing someone as dear as Eleanor has been to you is so difficult. She filled you as well as many others with such love and her sweet presence will certainly be missed. As you cherish your precious memories memories of her please reflect on the words of Jesus at John 5:28,29. In this passage we are assured of the resurrection. At that wonderful time our tears of grief will be transformed into tears of joy. This promise was made possible by our loving Heavenly Father Jehovah through the sacrifice of his dear son Jesus Christ (John 3:16). May this sure hope bring you a measure of comfort at this challenging time.
