Gilbert Barrier, 81, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA unexpectedly passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital.
Gilbert Roland, “Gil” to family and friends, was born March 24, 1936 in Binghamton, NY, a son of the late Howard and Helen (Demer) Barrier. Gil graduated from Vestal High School where he excelled in wrestling. On June 7, 1958, he married the former Phylis Winans. Gil was a self-employed logger most of his life. He also was a talented mechanic and a tinkerer, handyman type who could fix anything he set his mind to. Though he usually kept to himself, his family always came first in his life. Gil was a knowledgeable outdoorsman who loved the woods and nature. He also will be remembered as an honest, hard-working man who would help anyone in need.
Surviving is his wife Phylis, a daughter Kimberly Quackenbush of Col-X-Rds., five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, a brother James D. Barrier and several nieces, nephews, cousins, many dear friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by an infant son, Loren Roland Barrier and three sisters; Vicky, Sharon and Janet.
