Mable Porter Shedden, 87, of Canton, PA passed away at home while surrounded by loved ones on Friday evening, October 20, 2017.
Mable Shirley was born July 30, 1930 on Armenia Mountain near Alba, a daughter of the late Loren and Hazel (Dunbar) Harris. She was employed by Canton’s Swayze Folding Box Co. until its closure as well as being a well-known waitress at the former Hickock’s Restaurant. Mable always had a smile for everyone. She will be lovingly remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and for being feisty; Mable told it as she saw it. She enjoyed cooking, reading, watching birds, collecting cookbooks and most of all loving her grandkids.
Surviving are four children; Sheila Porter of Canton, Peg Hartford of Shunk, Rich (Donna) Porter
of Canton and Howard (Tami) Shedden of Covington, nine grandchildren; Danielle Porter (Mike Greer), Richard Jr. (Danielle) Porter, Georgeanna (Chuck) Dunbar, Stacy Hartford, Rodney (Amanda) Hartford, Nickie Jennings, Paul Shedden, Brenda Shedden and Sheila (Ryker) Packard, 12 great grandchildren; Savannah Porter, Karlind Dunbar (Jesse), Drake Dunbar, Maleigha Hartford (Josh), Jillaney Hartford, Siarra (Josh) Gordon, Brianna Hartford (Davey), Austin Hartford, Emily Jennings, Reilly Packard, Brooklyn and Isabel Packard , two great-great grandchildren, Lily and Layla Gordon, seven siblings; Bud (Marge) Harris, Lila Thomas, Pearl Harris, Minnie Harris, Phyllis Harris, Marie Harris and Sharon Hulslander, special nephew; Loren “Stub” (Helen) Wilston and family, dear friends; Bob Johnson, Bill and Gina Bastion, special caregivers; Peg, Georgeanna, Melissa, Maleigha and Emily, also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her daughter; Cheryl Marie Porter, son-in-law; Rocky Hartford, grandson-in-law; Scott Jennings, special friend; Grant Trick, her children’s father; Art Porter and Bryce Shedden, Sr.
Family invites friends to call 12 – 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive, Canton. Rev Duane Taylor will officiate the funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Beech Flats Cemetery.
