Marie (Bulkley) Kennedy

August 21, 1944 ~ May 31, 2019 (age 74)

Marie Kennedy, 74, lifelong resident of Canton, PA, passed away Friday morning, May 31, 2019 while surrounded by loved ones at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

Ella Marie was born August 21, 1944 in Canton, PA, a daughter of the late George and Helen (Crain) Bulkley.  She was a 1962 graduate of Canton High School and on August 17, 1963, married the love of her life, Gene Kennedy in the former Canton Methodist Church.   Devotion to family and home came first for Marie. She also was a wonderful cook and talented pie baker.  Marie was passionate about all animals and especially loved and pampered her cats.

Marie enjoyed a busy pace as an office assistant for nearly 40 years.  In early years, she worked with Mrs. Watts in the main office of the Canton High School for 19 years and helped with the school district’s census for five years.  Later she was secretary for the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) until retiring in 2007, following nearly 20 years.  For over 15 years, Marie was very active with the Rekindle the Spirit Organization and was instrumental in starting their Victorian Country Christmas at the Manley Bohlayer Farm.  Marie and Gene also helped with the farm’s car shows, cider mill and black smith shop.  For 21 years they housed deer hunters in their home making many longtime friends.  

 In addition to Gene, her husband of 55 years, surviving are her children; Priscilla (Frank) Cornell of Canton and Brian (Elaine) Kennedy of Wellsboro; three grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Elijah, Isobel and Clement; sister, Juanita (Brian) Earle of Canton; sister-in-law, Margaret Bulkley of Granville Summit and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

She was predeceased by her brother, Ben Bulkley.

Calling hours are 6 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 5th, followed by a funeral service at Pepper Funeral Home & Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton.  Burial will be held Thursday in Park Cemetery, Canton.  Mrs. Kennedy would have appreciated a donation in her memory to Happy Tails No Kill Animal Shelter, Inc., P.O.
