Richard "Dick" Blasz

February 10, 1929 ~ June 5, 2018 (age 89)

Richard “Dick” Blasz, 89, of Troy, PA passed away at home on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, while surrounded by loved ones.

Born February 10, 1929 in Eden, NY, Richard was one of 12 children in the family of the late Stanley and Julia (Zombeck) Blasz.  On Oct. 1, 1949 he married the former Mary Weiss in Eden’s St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Dick was always a hard worker and enjoyed his 38-year career with Tennessee Gas & Pipeline Company.  He started as a laborer and retired in 1989 as Plant Supervisor at the Troy, PA facility.  He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Canton.

Dick told it as he saw it.  Sometimes strong-willed, he also was blessed with a great sense of humor and wit, (i.e. "THE NYNOVUS").   Most of all, Dick will be lovingly remembered as a devoted family man.   He enjoyed many interests and talents including an appreciation of nature and being outdoors, gardening, woodworking and playing cards, especially Euchre.

Surviving is Mary, his beloved wife of over 68 years; seven children, Mary (Kevin) Cummins of Tampa, FL and their children, Donovan and Julia; Joe (Ellen) Blasz of Troy, PA and their children, Joe and Melanie; Rick (Wilma) Blasz of Troy and their children, Misty, Ryan and Amanda; Tom (Darlene) Blasz of Granville Summit, PA and their children, Jason, Joshua and Tim; Ken (Deb) Blasz of Columbia X Roads, PA and their children, Michelle and Melissa; Bob (Dianna) Blasz of Lawrenceville, PA and their children Andy, Martin, Keana and Karlyle; Barbara (Stephen) Dziak of Hamburg, NY and their children, Clarice, Stephen, Stacy and Jennifer.  Also 30 great grandchildren, a sister, Adele Magilo of Florida, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Rose Blasz, Millie Blasz, Arlene Weiss, Florence Weiss, Dorothy Weiss, Tony Weiss (Judy) and Steve Blasz all of Eden, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dick was predeceased by siblings; Charlotte May, Vincent Blasz, Estelle Kobiolka, Stephen Blasz, Bernice Pfarner, infant Julia, Edward Blasz, Alfred Blasz, Genevieve Krycia and Felix Blasz.

Friends are invited to call 2 – 4 P.M. and 6 – 8 P.M. Friday, June 8, at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton.  Rev. Joseph Kutch will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial, 10 A.M. Saturday at St. Michael’s Church located on the corner of Union and Washington Streets in Canton.  Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery.  The family will provide flowers and suggest those who wish consider a donation in Richard’s name to St. Michael’s Alter & Rosary Society at 106 N. Washington St. Canton, PA or to Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Rd. Towanda, PA 18848.
