Wilbur James Morse

June 29, 1927 ~ April 4, 2018 (age 90)

Wilbur J. Morse, 90, life-long resident of Canton, PA passed away while surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday morning, April 4, 2018 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

Born June 29, 1927 at the family home in Canton Township, Wilbur was a twin child of the late Willard Judson and Lena (Williams) Morse. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army. On May 14, 1948 he married the former Marjorie “Marge” Rolison at her family’s home in Troy. They were blessed with four children and shared nearly 70 years together. Wilbur enjoyed his work as a heavy equipment operator and crew foreman. He was employed by Lloyd Herman Construction, PennDOT, Jones & Brague Mining and retired from Canton Township. Wilbur was a member of Canton’s Moose Lodge No. 429, American Legion Post 303, V.F.W. Post 714 and the Wheel Inn in Roaring Branch. For nearly six years, Wilbur had been a resident of the Bradford County Manor.

In addition to his wife Marjorie, surviving are their children; Judy (John) Banks of Henderson, NV, Linda Avery of Goose Creek, SC, Vickie Byko of Clemson, SC and Jim Morse of Canton, five grandchildren; Marla (Teddy) Harvey of Ridgeville, SC, Beth (Nick) Crofut of Grand Ledge, MI, John (Asha) Bagley of Fort Collins, CO, Amanda (Daniel) Spencer of Seneca, SC and Jami Morse of Goose Creek, SC, also six great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his twin sister; Winifred Morse, a sister; Mary DePew and son-in-law; Gary F. Avery.

At Wilbur’s request, there will be no services. Burial will be private at Beech Flats Cemetery. Donations in Wilbur’s memory can be made to Bradford County Manor’s Activity Fund at 15900 Route 6, Troy, PA 16947. Pepper Funeral Home & Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Dr. in Canton is assisting his family with arrangements.
