Alan Lee (Pete) Shinn passed away May 27, 2026, after a brief illness. Alan, better known as Pete, was born in Williamsport, PA on March 6, 1950. He was the second son of Earl and Marie Kramer Shinn of Liberty, PA. Pete grew up on the Shinn family dairy farm south of Liberty and graduated in 1968 from Liberty High School. He attended Williamsport Community College until he was drafted into the US Army in May of 1970. Pete served in Germany, and upon returning home he married his best friend, Marcia J. Owen of Canton, PA on July 16, 1972. Pete and Marcie lived near Canton all their lives.
In 1984 Pete started his own Excavating business, which he ran for 30 years. He was a well-respected businessman who always strove to be honest and do his best for his customers. A job was not finished until he felt it was perfect. Pete was a dedicated Canton Lions Club member for many years and a member of the North Union Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Owen Shinn, sister Earlene Shinn Colson (Gordon) of Gallatin TN, as well as sister-in-law, JoAnn Shinn of Liberty, brother-in-law Ted Owen and sister-in-law, Pam Owen both of Canton. He is also survived by two cousins in South Dakota and Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pete was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Guy Shinn, brother-in-law, Allen Owen, and great nephew Killian Frey.
A private service will be held at the family’s convenience. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Pete’s name may be directed to the North Union Christian Church, 15520 Route 414, Canton, PA 17724 or the Canton Lions Club Site Conservation, PO Box 74, Canton, PA 17724.
