Obituary

Arlene Higley Brown, 85, longtime resident of East Troy, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 29, 2017 at Towanda Memorial Hospital's Skilled Nursing.
Born June 11, 1931 at the family home near Lincoln Falls in Sullivan County, Arlene was one of 11 children of the late Ralph and Lelah (McCarty) Higley.She was a 1949 graduate of Estella High School. On May 10, 1951, she married Emery L. Brown in Towanda.They shared 46 years of marriage before his passing on Aug. 28, 1997.

Arlene was blessed with a strong work ethic in life.In addition to her devotion to family and home, she often was a great help on the family's dairy.She had large gardens and canned, sewed, crocheted and made many beautiful afghans and quilts for her family and friends.She raised and sold strawberries in the area for many years to help with family expenses.Arlene enjoyed times spent playing cards with friends and family and her Senior Citizens Group's activities. She was a member of the East Troy Baptist Church.
Surviving are her eight children; Earl (Cathy) Brown of Troy, Connie (George) Taylor of Luthers Mills, Donna (Fred) Wrisley of Covington, Sandra (Ed) Hager of Ulster, Kathy Bailey of Sylvania, Karen (Doug) Heller of Canton, Randy Brown of Troy and Dennis (Angela) Brown of Valrice, FL, 23 grandchildren; Jason, Michael, Jennie, Stephanie, Jessica, Jeremiah, Kim, Brent, Charles,
Kerri, Jedidiah, Jonathan, Joshua, Heather, Jamie Jo, Brock, Kelsey, Ashley, Sean, Billy, Christina, Bradley and Brittany, 51 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, three brothers; Clinton Higley of Laceyville, Myron Higley of Lewisburg and Floyd Higley of Muncy, three sisters-in-law, Jane Higley of New Era, Rita Higley of Kenmore, NY and Ruth Higley of Passadena, CA, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by seven siblings; Evelyn Stevenson, Helen Brown, Donald Higley, Kenneth Higley, Bruce Higley, Dale Higley and Gordon Higley, also many dear friends.

Family and friends are invited to North Street Community Church at 177 North St.in Canton from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday, April 1, for a time of visiting.Memories will be shared at 6:30.Private burial will be Saturday in Brown Cemetery in Shunk. In lieu of flowers, consider memorials in Arlene's name to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St. Williamsport, PA 17701.Pepper Funeral Home in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements.
