Barbara Jean Landis, 80, beloved wife of N. Glen Landis, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on October 29, 2023, at Troy Hospital. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and love that will forever warm the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Barbara was born on May 4, 1943, in Lancaster, PA, to the late Robert S Eby and Marion R Eby. She grew up in Lancaster, PA, and graduated from Christopher Dock High School in 1961. On December 30, 1962, she married the love of her life, N. Glen Landis, and together they shared 60 years of a beautiful, loving marriage.
Barbara was an integral part of the establishment of New Life Church where she faithfully served alongside her husband/pastor for over 40 years. Directing the choir, leading worship, and office administration were just some of the many roles she served in ministry. Barbara had a profound passion for music and actively participated in many community choirs and retreats, using her voice to bring joy to those around her. In addition, she served in various community organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, Rekindle the Spirit, and the Bradford County Regional Arts Council. Her love for gardening was evident in the vibrant beauty she cultivated around her home, a reflection of her nurturing spirit. She was a trailblazer, a force of nature, and a woman of faith. Barbara's unwavering commitment to her family was evident in her role as the biggest cheerleader in her children and grandchildren's lives, sporting events and other activities, where she shared in their triumphs and provided love and support in every way possible.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, N Glen, and their four children: Sondi Strohecker of Mansfield, PA; Christopher (Lianne) Landis of Canton, PA; Tiffany (Tim) Shedden of Cleveland, OH; and Joshua (Beth) Landis of Lancaster, PA. Her memory lives on through her 16 cherished grandchildren: Alex Strohecker, Anthony Strohecker, Landis Strohecker, Ethan (Elyse) Landis, Emalee Landis, Isaac Landis, Cohen Landis, Kyli Landis, Brooke Shedden (Conner) Culhane, Haley Shedden, Cole Shedden, Jack Shedden, Jenna Shedden, Luke Landis, Cash Landis, and Jett Landis. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Alexander Strohecker, and Gabriel Strohecker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Kay Eby Moore, Linda Eby, and her grandchildren, Samuel, Matthew, and Mason Strohecker.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Victory Church, 645 E. Main Street, Troy, PA 16947. A celebration of Barbara's remarkable life will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the church. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory may be made to Rekindle the Spirit, Inc., PO Box 243, Canton, PA 17724.
Barbara Jean Landis's kindness, passion, and devotion to her family and community have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but will live on in the cherished memories of those she touched with her love and grace.
