Obituary

Betty Ann Spencer, 78, passed away peacefully in her Roaring Branch home on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, with family at her side. Betty was born in Akron, Ohio, on November 24, 1947, to the late Wade and Marion (Allen) Moretz. She grew up in Washington County, Virginia, before moving to northern Pennsylvania with her parents and older brother Gary. She attended Canton Area Schools and was a graduate of the class of 1966.

On November 12, 1966, Betty married David Spencer in Elmira, NY. Together they shared 58 loving years of marriage and raised one son. Betty was employed by Wundies in Liberty, Pennsylvania, where she made several lifelong friends. After their closing she worked for Liberty Business Information followed by Ward Manufacturing until her retirement.

Growing up on a farm in southwestern Virginia, Betty was a true southern cook, famous for preparing far too much food for treasured holiday gatherings (a fortunate problem for any in attendance). She took great pride in hosting her family for those holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. Betty had a love of classic music, particularly Elvis Presley and Tammy Wynette. She adored animals, and was exceptionally fond of horses, her special dog Boots, and Wade and Sonya’s rescued Pittie, Vee. Betty was a hard worker, a generous soul, and a fighter to the end.

Betty is survived by her son Wade (Sonya) Spencer of Wellsboro; sisters-in-law Phyllis (Cliff) Welch of Covington and Laurie (Brian) Krise of Canton, and dear friend Beverly Griffin of Canton.

Besides her parents and brother, Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, David, in December of 2024. She leaves behind many special lifelong friends and loved ones.

In accordance with Betty’s wishes, a private service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Betty’s name may be directed to Second Chance Animal Sanctuary, 725 Gee Rd, Tioga, PA, 16946.
