Obituary

Carleton "Carty" Wooster, 99, of Roaring Branch, PA (Union Twp.)passed away at home while surrounded by his family on Wednesday morning, January 4, 2017.
Carleton Gregory Wooster was born in Leroy, PA on May 19, 1917.He was the son of the late Carlyle and Ina (Gregory) Wooster.He attended Canton Schools and helped on his father's farm as a young man.
On July 1, 1940, Carty married the former Eleanor McIlwain in Wellsboro.They made their home on Bennett Hill and dairy farmed for many years.Though Carty loved farming all his life, he also enjoyed being involved with people.His work ethic and skills led him to several additional types of work over the years. In the 1950's he also hauled milk in the Windfall area.In the 1970's, he was a self-employed carpenter whose projects included the construction of the vet clinic building near Alba and many area roof repairs and home improvements. Carty never really retired, he was blessed with a strong constitution and continued to raise beef cattle and help with farm work.He cut wood with his son Larry until age 90.
Carty's full life of memories and his witty humor made him a great storyteller.In earlier years, he enjoyed many camping trips throughout the area.
He was an active member of the Newelltown United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee and often as the church's handyman.He was a trustee of the Grover Cemetery and was very involved in the former Ogdensburg Grange and the Historical Societies of Union Township and Leroy.
Surviving is his wife of 76 years, Eleanor, two children; Dianne (Erwin) Spencer of Roaring Branch and Larry (Janice) Wooster of Gillett, four grandchildren; Angie (Todd) Sargent of Manheim, PA, Kim Smith
and Mike (Lori) Wooster all of Gillett and Vicki Spencer of Milton, two great grandchildren; Ashley Sargent and Thomas Smith, two sisters-in-law; Dorothy Jane Wevadau of Harrisburg and Viola McIlwain of Roaring Branch, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Clinton Spencer and sister, Virginia (Fred) Watkins.
Calling hours are 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton.
His Pastor, Rev. Ann Overmiller will officiate the funeral and committal services Monday at 11 a.m. followed by burial in Grover Cemetery.Those who wish may consider a memorial in Mr. Wooster's name to the Newelltown Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66 Ralston, PA 17763.
