Obituary

Carol R. Rockwell died peacefully in the presence of her husband and family on June 14th 2017.Carol was born on May 18th 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa; the daughter of Lyle and Sophia Miller. She was raised in Epworth, Iowa and graduated from Epworth High School where she excelled as a basketball player. In Epworth she met Charles H. Rockwell a US Navy veteran who was completing his education at the University of Dubuque, and working for Maxwell's Store in Epworth. They fell in love and were married on June 25th 1950.Shortly after their marriage, Charles was recalled into the US Navy during the Korean War.Carol joined Charles in California where Charles' ship was ported. They lived in Oakland, California and Carol began her working career as a teller for Bank of America.

Carol and Charles returned to Iowa for a short time following Charles' release from active duty with the Navy. They then returned to Canton where they made their home on Tioga Street and raised their three children.Following the graduation of the children from high school, Carol returned to the work she had chosen as a teller with the First National Bank of Canton, where she worked for over thirty years.
Carol loved to help people at the bank and to make them feel welcome with friendly conversation as she served them. She was active in the Disciple Church, and was a devoted member of the choir for many years. She remained an active athlete and was well known throughout the area as a top-notch tennis player.
She was always available for her family and whenever asked would drop everything to help her children and grandchildren. She was a person who looked out for her neighbors; bringing them a pie, conversing on the street, or shoveling their walks after a snowstorm.
At home, she loved to knit and make gloves, sweaters, and afghans for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her prowess as a baker of pies was unrivaled and a great joy for her family. While in the kitchen she kept an eye on her bird feeder and became a first-rate bird identifier and watcher.
