October 21, 1930 – April 17, 2025
Charles Herbert Brackman, 94 years old, of Blandon passed peacefully on April 17, 2025, in his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Audrey M. (Metzger), to whom he was married for 75 years.
Born in Sennett, NY, he was the son of the late John and Hazel Brackman. Charles was a 1948 graduate of Canton High School. He lived in Bradford, Tioga, Lancaster and Berks Counties, retired to Windfall, and relocated to Blandon, Berks County to be near their children. Charles worked many jobs: farmer, mechanic, artificial inseminator, and retired from Sperry New Holland farm machinery as an engineer, being certified by Penn State.
Charles and Audrey visited all 50 states and enjoyed retirement. Charlie enjoyed tinkering, cutting firewood, reading and loved traveling with Ocean Grove, NJ being a favorite vacation spot. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing, especially in Canada with his family and friends and at Sunfish Pond for Trout. He was a Penn State Football fan, where he ushered many games. Playing aggravation, Web TV, emails and writing letters to the editor of the Canton Paper were some of his favorite pass times. He could repair almost anything.
Charlie held many memberships in his lifetime. He was a member of the East Canton United Methodist Church, Masons Lodge No. 415, 50+ year member of Windfall Grange No. 257, Bradford-Sullivan County Pomona Grange No. 23 where he was master for four years, State and National Grange, the NRA, Charles Shriners 2009, English First and Heifer International where he was on the Mission Committee. Charlie was President of Athletic Boosters of Cocalico Hish School in Denver, PA, and he served on Consistory of St. John's United Church of Christ in Denver, PA, where he worked with the youth as a Sunday School teacher and took them on retreats. Charlie attended the Coufs in Little Rock, AR and delivered animals for HI. He took Ag Short Courses at Penn State University and received the Keystone Farmer Degree at the PA Farm Show in 1949. He served on many mission trips. He was a member of the Masons and Rajah Shriners Anglers. He attended Trinity Bible Fellowship church.
Charles leaves behind his wife; Audrey, at home. Children; John Brackman of Pottsville, Pa, Mark (Linda) Brackman of Auburn, Pa, Joe (Mary Alice) Brackman of Pottsville, Pa, Pamela (Delbert) Berger of Sinking Spring, Pa, Barbara (Brian) Yoder of Hamburg, Pa, and Lisa ( Pastor Gary) Martin of Huntington, AR; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild; siblings Owen Brackman and Paul Brackman both of Canton, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law; Lewis and Erma Brackman, sister-in-law; Nancy Brackman; granddaughter; Teresa Anna Trego; infant great grandchildren Skyler Evan Strain, Peter Cooper and Lottie Rose Cooper.
He'd most like to be remembered as a caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He supported children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in sports, music, motorcross, graduations, weddings, and their military service, etc. He showed by example how to work hard and never give up on anything.
