She was born on September 15, 1955, in Perth Amboy, NJ, the daughter of the late Ernest J. and Lenore Lindstadt Waldmeyer. She grew up in Edison, NJ and graduated from John P. Stevens High School in 1973. She then graduated from Montclair State College with a BA in Speech and Theatre Education. Following graduation, she became the Bursar for DeVry Technical Institute until 1985 when she moved to Canton, PA, to establish the Canton Card and Gift Shop with her sister, Edye.

She was a devoted substitute and permanent teacher in the Canton Area School District until her retirement in 2021. Claire was a coach for the elementary Battle of the Books team since 2007.

Claire truly considered Canton her home. She actively supported the local community volunteering her time and talents for the Friends of the Green Free Library, Canton PTA and the Rialto Theatre.
