Obituary

Cleone (May) Vanderpool, 82, of LeRoy, PA, formerly of Canton, went home to her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, October 19, 2024, at the Bradford Hills Nursing Facility in Troy.

Cleone Marie May was born May 10, 1942, in LeRoy, a daughter of the late Newton May and Audrey (Dunn) Swain.  She attended the LeRoy and Canton Schools and later, on November 10, 1957, married Ronald L. Vanderpool. Together they raised two sons and shared 43 years of matrimony until Ron's passing in 2001.

Cleone was exceptionally good at crafting and was very talented at crocheting.  She made quilts for her family members that are truly treasured.  In addition to her talents at crocheting, Cleone was an excellent cook and baker.  She was admired by many because of her delicious pies.   She was also an avid reader, especially romance novels. Cleone was a quiet but fun-loving individual who loved to laugh. Her main interest throughout life was the time spent with her loving family.

She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Cindy Vanderpool of FL, Michelle (John) Lupole of Jersey Shore, PA, grandsons, Kris, Shawn and Jeffery Vanderpool, great grandchildren, Brianna, Hunter, Gracie, Kinslee, Logan and Conner, brothers, Claude "Butch" May Charles "Pete" (Cinda) Swain, Steve May, a sister, Sue Swain, sisters-in-law, Yvonne Gouck, Carol Wunder, Sue (Ralph) Lamphere, brother-in-law, Max Simcoe, aunts, Phyllis Burnside and Jeanette May, a particularly special niece; Patti Bennett who loved Cleone dearly and took on many roles to share that love with Cleone. From helping to keep Cleone's house to being there when Cleone was making very difficult health decisions, Patti was there.  She visited Cleone regularly and managed all the logistics of her care.  Cleone's family greatly appreciates Patti's heartfelt care, and we are sure that Cleone loved and appreciated Patti's care as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear neighbors and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Cleone was predeceased by two sons, Jeff and Scott Vanderpool, a special companion of over 20 years, Charles "Bud" VanHorn, a brother, Clay May, sisters, Norma Simcoe, Nancy Bassett and Mary Oliver.
