Allen
May 12, 1940 – April 2, 2025
David "Charles" Allen, 84, of Granville Summit, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital. Charles was born May 12, 1940, in Canton, a son to the late David and Margaret (Johnston) Allen. He attended Troy Area Schools and was a graduate of the class of 1958. On June 19, 1960, Charles married the former Neva Gustin. Together they shared 64 years of marriage and raised four children. Charles operated the family farm from 1960 to 1990, raising dairy cows, beef cows, sheep, hogs, goats, chickens, turkeys and ducks.
He was a member and officer in several farm organizations including the Troy Chapter Future Farmers of America, Pennsylvania Young Farmers Association, Bradford Sullivan County Farm Bureau, Towanda Valley Grange, Eastern Milk Producers, Bradford County Sheep and Wool Growers, Sulbra Crop Management Association, Bradford Sullivan Forest Landowners and was the state director of the PA Crop Management Association. Charles was also a committee member of Farm Service Agency for Bradford County for 16 years, won the American Farmer Award in 1961 and was a member and Deacon at the former E. Granville Baptist Church. He held many awards and certificates including a Certificate of Appreciation from the US Ag Department, Distinguished Service Bradford County FSA Committee, Outstanding Cooperation of the Bradford County Conservation District, Distinguished Service of Bradford Sullivan Forest Landowners, Allenmead Milking Herd Sale of 1977 and the PA Newspaper Association Award at Pittsburgh. Always one to stay busy, after farming Charles was a Real Estate Salesman for United Country for 8 years and then delivered the Troy Pennysaver and the Sunday Review for 23 years where he earned Carrier of the Year in 1996.
Charles was a lifetime avid hunter and square dancer.
Charles leaves behind his wife; Neva, at home, children; Paul (Arlene) Allen of Granville Summit, Penny (Jeff) McCallum of WA, Carla Dee Allen of FL and Carl (Lori) Allen of Granville Summit, grandchildren; Sadie, Charlie (Brittany), Ike and Seth Allen, great grandson; Paul Elam Allen.
A Time of visitation will be held from 10 – 11 A.M. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. A service to honor Mr. Allen's life will follow at 11 A.M. Burial will be private in the Granville Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Charles Allen's name may be directed to the Troy Area School District FFA, 68 Fenner Ave., Tory, PA 16947 or to Granville Center Cemetery Association c/o Lori Saxton, 487 Saxton Hill Road, Granville Summit, PA 16926.
