Dale W.
Shepard
May 16, 1960 – May 4, 2026
Dale W. Shepard, 65, of Granville Summit, PA, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Troy Community Hospital with his family by his side. Dale Wayne was born on May 16, 1960, in Hardin, Kentucky, a son of Donna (Smiley) Shepard and the late Philip Shepard Sr. He attended Troy Area Schools and graduated with the Class of 1978. On August 30, 1980, Dale married the former Penny Anderson in East Smithfield, PA. Together they shared 45 years of loving marriage. Shortly after, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country for 21 years as both a scout and a recruiter, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Dale was an avid outdoorsman who loved hiking, hunting, fishing, and tending to his pond. He enjoyed feeding the birds and was always delighted when the Baltimore Orioles visited his home. He was a true movie fanatic who loved watching films and talking about all the ones he had seen. Dale was also a talented woodworker who spent countless hours in his garage, where collecting tools became a way of life. Above all, he cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored deeply.
Dale leaves behind his wife, Penny, at home; his children, Janna (Thad) Dibble and Kyle (Amanda) Shepard; his grandchildren, Khloe, Connor, Payton, and Wynter; his mother, Donna Shepard; his siblings, Philip Shepard Jr., Deanna (Dale) Bolt, Jenny (Art) Buck, and Timothy Shepard; and his uncle and best friend, Dean Smiley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Besides his father, Dale was predeceased by an infant grandson, Aiden Shepard, and his grandparents, Merwin and Norma Smiley.
In keeping with Dale’s wishes, services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton, is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dale’s name may be directed to the Troy Vets Club, 183 Veterans Drive, Troy, PA 16947.
