December 3, 1933 – October 25, 2023
Dawn R. (Horton) Schanbacher, 89, of Canton, went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, while surrounded by her loving family at her home. Dawn was born December 3, 1933, in Sayre the oldest of five children of the late Clifford and Millie (Adams) Horton. She attended Canton Area Schools and was a graduate of the class of 1954. On December 21, 1955. Dawn married her soulmate, Lewis Schanbacher in the Grover Church of Christ. Together they shared 67 years of loving marriage and raised three children.
Dawn loved the Lord and was a member of the Grover Church of Christ. She helped with church's Sunday school and formerly served as treasurer. Singing in the church choir, especially with the quartets and cantatas, was something Dawn truly enjoyed. She was a simple person who always put her family first. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life. She was always so proud of each and every one of them.
Dawn leaves behind her husband; Lewis Schanbacher at home, children; Melody (Kevin) Kitchen or Roaring Branch, David Schanbacher of Canton and Robin Schanbacher (Louise) of York, grandchildren, Brock (Rayna) Kitchen of Canton, Adam (Lindsay) Kitchen of Elizabethtown and Lacey Kitchen of Roaring Branch, great grandchildren; Cooper, Kendall, Sophie, Evelyn and Emery, a brother; Clifford Jr. (Joan) Horton, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Meylert Schanbacher, and Martly (Julie) Burguess, Pauline Horton, Charlotte Horton as well as several very special nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Dawn was predeceased by her brothers and a sister-in-law; Alfred Horton, James Horton and Bradley (Sharon) Horton, sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Mary (Rex) Cranmer and Audrey Schanbacher.
Mrs. Schanbacher's family is very grateful for the love and support shown to Dawn by her caregivers and hospice.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 4-5 p.m. at the Grover Church of Christ. A celebration of Dawn's life will follow at 5 p.m. with her pastor and friend Will Strunk officiating. Burial will be held in the Beech Flats Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Schanbacher's name may be directed to the Grover Church of Christ, 20 Main Street, Grover, PA 17735.
