Doris "Doad" Packard's Obituary

Doris "Doad" Packard, 81, of Canton, PA passed away peacefully while surrounded by family at her daughter's home on Friday morning, March 25, 2011.

Doris Jean Twist, "Doad" to family and friends, was born on January 15, 1930 in Canton.She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Grace (Rice) Twist.Shortly after graduating in 1947 from Canton High School, Doad married Lewis J. "Lewie" Packard on August 31, 1947 in Canton.The Packard's were blessed with over 63 years together and raised five children.Most important in her life was her love for family and home.Doad was a great help on the family's farm near Cowley and in earlier years, also worked for several area businesses.She was a member of the Windfall Methodist Church.

Doad enjoyed doing many things in life.She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren during their school activities and spending time with her family and many dear friends.Doad was a talented seamstress.

Surviving is her devoted husband Lewie, four children; Linda (Paul) Machmer of Canton, Beverly (Max) Mott of Perkasie, PA, Nancy (Greg) Inman of Roaring Branch and Vicki (Brian) Douvier of Canton,13 grandchildren; Jackie Machmer (Paul Wesneski), Shawn (Heather) Machmer, Matthew (Cindy) Machmer, Lori (Jim) Smith, Tami (Bob) Shoemaker, Bryan (Pamela) Mott, Becky Dimmick, Charles (Adrienne) Mott, Scott (Paula) Inman, Mark (Lisa) Inman, Lucas (Stephanie) Douvier, Stephanie (Jacob) Woleslagle and Brett Packard, 30 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild, a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; Robert and Mary Lou Packard of Granville Summit, Rhea Kittner of Elmira, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her son, Gary L. Packard on December 29, 1992, twin grandsons; Brett and Brent Machmer in 1971, a great-grandson, Nathaniel B. Inman in 2010, her sister and a brother-in-law, Janet and Bob Chilson, sisters-in-law, Grace Fulmer, Anna Haflett, Helen Brown and a brother-in-law;Don Packard.

Friends may call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 27th and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday at the Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Dr., in Canton. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the family's close friend, Rev. Jasper Smith officiating.Burial will be in Windfall Cemetery.Those who wish may consider a memorial in Mrs. Packard's name to the Guthrie Hospice, RR1, Box 154 Towanda, Pa. 18848
