Mrs. Dorothy A. Groff, age 94, spouse of Marvin Groff of Canton, PA, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, February 28, 2026, with loved ones by her side.
Dorothy Arlene, born on October 24, 1931, in Hagerstown, MD, and was one of six children of the late Jonas and Elizabeth (Baer) Hege.
After high school, Dorothy earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, VA. She then began a teaching career that lasted more than 30 years, educating local youth.
Mrs. Groff started her career teaching K-12 in a one-room schoolhouse in Shunk, then taught at Estella Schools, and later became a third and fourth grade teacher in the Canton Area School District until she retired in 1991.
Dorothy was the devoted wife of Marvin B. Groff whom she married on July 11, 1953, together they shared 72 years of devoted marriage and raised two sons.
Mrs. Groff was a member of the North Street Community Church. She demonstrated considerable skill in cooking and had interests that included motorcycle riding and travel. Her primary focus in life was the affection she demonstrated within her household and toward her family, with particular attention given to her beloved grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Marvin at home; her two sons, Daniel (Cathy) Groff of Sarasota, FL, and DeVon (Sandra) Groff of Landisville, PA; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Arlene) Hege of GA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by four siblings.
Friends are invited to visit on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at North Street Community Church, 177 N. Street, Canton, PA 17724. A celebration of life service will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon.
A private interment will take place at Beech Flats Cemetery at the family's convenience.
The Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
