Douglas B. Spencer, 74, of Troy, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Douglas Barry was born January 25, 1950, in Elmira, New York. He was the son of the late William Sr. and Mildred (Cole) Spencer. Doug attended Canton area schools and was a graduate of the class of 1967. After high school he went on to Shippensburg University for 2 years until he entered the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he earned the National Defense Service Medal.
After serving his country he returned to Troy and accepted a position at Paper Majic, formerly Eureka where he advanced to the position of Chief of Operations until his retirement.
Doug enjoyed woodworking, gardening and raising goats with his brother Rick. He loved engaging in political discussions and studying history. Doug was talented in small engine repair. He was a unique, humble and private individual with a lot of integrity. Doug had a witty sense of humor and was very true to his country that he loved and served.
Doug leaves behind his daughter; Samantha (Sandeep) Banga of Malvern, Pa, a grandchild; Kai, sisters; Donna (Ralph) Rathbun and Darlene Blasz all of Granville and Cheri (Rick) Hoover of Troy, nieces and nephews; Wendy, Mark, Billy, Matt, Cristy, Robbie, Rayna, Jason, Josh, Tim, Leanne and Darien, a sister-in-law; Connie Spencer as well as several cousins.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, brothers; William Jr., Ronald, Richard and a brother-in-law; Thomas Blasz.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 2-3 P.M. at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. A celebration of Doug's life will follow at 3 P.M. with military honors accorded. Burial in Beech Flats Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Doug's name may be directed to a local veteran's organization or any charity of your choice.
