Eleanor L. (Monroe) McNett, 95, of Canton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Bradford Hills Nursing and Rehab Facility in Troy. Born on September 6, 1930, in Granville Summit, she was the youngest of six children of the late Perry and Myrtle (Smith) Monroe. Eleanor attended Troy area schools and graduated with the Class of 1948. After school she worked at the Canton Shirt Factory, where she met a young WWII veteran, Jack McNett, shortly after his return from deployment in Okinawa, Japan. They were married on January 19, 1949, at the Methodist Parsonage in Ralston and shared exactly sixty‑eight years of devoted marriage until Jack’s passing on their anniversary in 2017. Eleanor was a longtime member of the Newelltown Methodist Church.
Eleanor’s life as a homemaker centered around raising their three sons. She was an excellent cook and spent many years working in the cafeterias for Canton area schools. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, creating countless Afghans and baby blankets that warmed two generations of her family as well as many friends.
Eleanor is survived and deeply missed by her sons, Dale (Mary) McNett of Warren and Craig (Connie) McNett of Canton; her daughter‑in‑law, Fern McNett of Canton; and her brother‑in‑law, James McNett of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa (Justin), Nate (Missy), Jon (Elizabeth), Maria, Michelle (Jeremy), Douglas (Sara), Taylor, and Zoe; was blessed with eleven great‑grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Jack, Eleanor was predeceased by her son, Jerry McNett; her great‑grandson, Noah; and her siblings, Henry, Albert, Eloise, Betty, and Alberta.
Services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in loving memory of Mrs. McNett may be directed to the Newelltown Methodist Church, 2229 Joe Hill Road, Roaring Branch, PA 17765.
