Obituary

Eric Garrison, 76, of Shunk, PA, passed on Sept 13, 2025. Eric was born July 3, 1949, in Orange, NJ, to the late Carman and Gelda (Chorba) Garrison.

Eric was a patriot and adventurer. Between graduating high school from Blair Academy in 1967 and receiving a B.S. from City College of New York in 1978. He enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam War and trained as a member of UDT 21/22.

Eric's biggest diversion was searching for pirate, Aztec, and Fenn treasure. By the time of his death, he had covered every mile of continental seaboard and a good portion of the Rockies.

As a kid, Eric and his family loved spending summers camping\living on the Delaware River near Water Gap, PA. Time spent mastering the river and mountains honing the necessary skills to become an Eagle Scout. In the Navy, during convalescent leave, he counter-intuitively hitched flights into Da Nang, Vietnam to surprise his brother. After the war, Eric drove dignitaries such as the Dalai Lama and the Chief of the Mohicans to activist speeches in and around Washington DC. In 1976 he helped crew a tall ship from Florida to Massachusetts during the bicentennial. In 1982 Eric took part in the first, traditional three-year Buddhist retreat offered in North America. Later pilgrimages led to his spending time at Everest base camp, and fasting weeks in a cave atop Mt Kailash. These are just a few of the many life experiences Eric collected, that lead to a rich life, exhibiting the best human qualities of complete humility, being non-judgmental, protector of all living things, and teacher of all the good we can bring to our fellow man.

Surviving Eric are his siblings Brent Garrison of Blakeslee, PA, Gail Garrison of Rockville, MD, and Carleton Garrison of Manassas, VA; God children Holly and Daniel; nieces Heather, Theresa, Mary, Alice and Ashley; nephews Andrew and Cole.

A celebration of life, with a three-fire ceremony, was held on Sept 9, 2026, by the Eastern Delaware Nation at Wyalusing Rock, PA. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton assisted the family with arrangements.
