Esther M. Terwilliger, 90, formerly long-time resident of Canton, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023, at the Twin Oaks Personal Care Home in Granville Summit, PA. Esther May was born September 29, 1933, in Sayre, one of eleven children to the late James and May (Wandell) Mingos. On July 15, 1970, Esther married James Terwilleger in N. Towanda. Together they shared 62 years of marriage until Jim's passing on August 22, 2012. She was employed at Blue Swan Sewing Factory in Athens, the Stocking Factory and later American Silk both of Troy. Never with idle hands, Esther enjoyed volunteering at the Clothing Center in Canton and for the Apple Dumpling Gang at the East Canton United Methodist Church, where she was a devoted church member.
Esther loved crafting various items, putting together puzzles and crocheting. She took pride in her flower beds and in her earlier years vegetable gardening and canning her abundance of home grown produce.
Esther leaves behind her daughter; Rosemary Fewtrell of Florida, son; Michael Terwilleger of Washington, grandson; Jimmy Winebarger of Florida, several great grandchildren; siblings; Ellen Maryott of Towanda, Leslie Mingos of Sayre, Betty (Gary) Ferguson and Julia Palmer both of Alba, Frank Mingos of Athens, Hila Ginelle of North Carolina and Peggy Wheeler of Shunk, a bother-in-law; Arnold King of North Carolina as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Esther was predeceased by a grandson; William Winebarger and siblings; Marion Luckey, George Mingos, Robert Mingos and Nancy King, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Mingos, Ruth Mingos; brothers-in-law; Fred Maryott, Charles Luckey, Johnny Wheeler, Larry Palmer, Nelson Boyer and Norman Haflett.
The family invites friends to call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. A celebration of Esther's life will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Bradford County Memorial Park, Towanda, PA. Those who wish may consider a memorial in Mrs. Terwilliger's memory to the East Canton United Methodist Church, 5791 Rt. 414, Canton, PA 17724 or Alzheimer's Association, 57 N. Franklin St. Wilkes Barre, PA 18701.
