Obituary

Gary L. Woodruff, 74, of Troy, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Gary Lynn was born on January 7, 1952, in Troy, the son of the late Leon and Ruby (Kent) Woodruff. He attended Troy Area Schools and graduated with the Class of 1970. In 2014, Gary met the former Eunice Muhonja and on June 11, 2022, the couple were married at the New Life Church in Canton, sharing 4 years of devoted marriage.

Gary spent more than fifty years as a self‑employed over‑the‑road truck driver, a career he took pride in until his health no longer allowed him to continue. He was a faithful member of the New Life Church, where he greeted everyone with a smile and made sure each person received a piece of candy. He became affectionately known as the candy man, always carrying Werther’s Originals and keeping alternatives on hand for anyone who preferred something different.

He cherished Sunday breakfasts with his family after church and coffee at the Dandy with Roger. Gary was a social man who never met a stranger, the kindest and most selfless person you could hope to encounter. He helped anyone in need without ever expecting anything in return. He loved his community, but above all, he treasured his family and every moment he spent with them.

Surviving Gary are his wife; Eunice, children; Stacy (Daryl) Kent, Suzette (Chris) Ault, sister; Gail Wilcox (Dale Bellows), step-children; Benson and Beverlyn Zanga, special friend; Roger Hulslander as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Gary was predeceased by a daughter; Danielle Bramley, brother; Gene Woodruff and his canine companion; Bear.

A memorial service to honor the life of Gary will be announced. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gary’s name may be directed to the New Life Church, 299 McMurray Road, Canton, PA 17724.
