Gertrude H. "Trudy" (Hempel) Swingle, 98, of Granville Township, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Born on March 26, 1927, in Germany, Trudy was the cherished daughter of the late Paul and Emma (Ulrich) Hempel. She became lovingly known as Trudy throughout her life and was a devoted member of Windfall United Methodist Church.

On November 2, 1949, Trudy married her beloved husband, Donald Swingle, in Germany. They lived in many places during Donald's time in the Army when they began their life together in the United States. The couple shared 45 beautiful years of marriage until his passing on their anniversary in 1994. In 1978, they settled into their home on Spencer Hill Road—a place filled with warmth and love. After Donald's death, Trudy continued to reside in the neighborhood, remaining close to the life they built together.

Trudy had a generous heart and a nurturing spirit. She was always eager to lend a hand, often caring for friends' children and pets with tenderness and joy. Her love for animals was matched only by her talent in the kitchen and her pride in her garden, which bloomed under her thoughtful care. For years, she embraced her daily three-mile walks, a routine as steady and graceful as she was.

With impeccable style and poise, Trudy was known for always being dressed beautifully—her weekly hair appointments were a cherished ritual. She had a passion for embroidery, creating delicate, artful pieces that reflected her creativity and attention to detail.

Trudy is survived by 2 nieces in the United States, and 2 nephews in Germany.

Besides her parents, and husband Donald, Trudy was predeceased by her siblings; Martin, Lena, Otto, Alfred, Elizabeth, Paul and her twin Gertroud.

A time of visitation will be held from 10 to 11 A.M. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. A celebration of Trudy's life will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Swingles name may be directed to a local humane society of your choice.
