Obituary

Gregory Dean Congdon, 45, of Troy, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Born on October 17, 1980, in Elmira, New York, Greg was the beloved son of Neil and JoAnn Congdon of Troy.

A proud member of the Troy Area High School Class of 1999, Greg was a lifelong Troy Trojan fan who could always be found cheering on his hometown teams. He was an avid NASCAR enthusiast and rarely missed cheering on his favorite driver, Joey Logano. He was also a devoted Penn State football and wrestling fan, a loyal New York Giants supporter, and enjoyed spending time fishing whenever he had the chance. More than anything, Greg cherished time with his family. Some of his happiest memories were made during visits to Damascus, Maryland, Morman Lake, his grandparents’ home in Coryland, and family vacations to the Outer Banks. He was especially looking forward to celebrating one of life’s next big milestones this fall as he watched his niece, Madelynn, marry the love of her life.

Greg also took great pride in supporting causes that were important to his family. He was always trying to impress his sister with how many aluminum tabs he could collect for Kids Can’t Fight Cancer Alone, knowing each one helped support children and families facing childhood cancer. It was one of the many quiet ways he showed how much he cared. Greg will be remembered for his love of family, his unwavering loyalty, and the countless memories shared through sporting events, fishing trips, family vacations, and everyday moments that will now be treasured forever. While his passing leaves an immeasurable void, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

In addition to his loving parents, Greg is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Christopher and Tracey (Congdon) Weldy of Burlington; his nieces, Madelynn Moretz and her fiancé, Nathan Wasson, of Jersey Shore, and Cora Weldy of Pittsburgh; his grandmother, Janice Congdon of Coryland; his beloved dog, Huckslee; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gerald and Madeline (Seeley) Walling of Elmira, New York; his paternal grandfather, Paul Congdon of Coryland; and a very special family member, Gerald “Gerry” Gaines of Damascus, Maryland.

In accordance with Greg’s wishes, private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Greg’s memory are invited to make memorial contributions to Kids Can’t Fight Cancer Alone, 784 Canton Street, Troy, PA 16947, an organization that held a very special place in his heart.
