Harold D. "Chuck" Blaney, 82, of Canton, was called home by his lord on December 10, 2023. Harold Duane was born March 23, 1941, in Canton, a son of the late Willie Ray and Evelyn (Page) Blaney. Chuck, as known by most, attended Canton area schools. He enlisted into the United States Army on his 17th birthday where he honorably served for 20 years. During half of his enlistment Chuck was an enlisted soldier and the second half as a commissioned officer. He then received a direct commission during the Vietnam War from staff sergeant to 2nd lieutenant and finally retired in 1978 as a captain. During his service he received numerous commendations and decorations including the Air Medal Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters and an Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters for action against a hostile force from 1965-1966, a Purple Heart in 1966 and a Meritorious Service Medal presented upon his retirement. Following his military career Chuck worked as a carpenter and in the construction field both in the Canton area as well as the Cumberland Valley area of south-central Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Leroy Independent Baptist Church and often worshipped with the congregation of the Ogdensburg Church of Christ.
Chuck leaves behind a daughter, Laura Blaney Kaul of Elmira, NY, granddaughters, Emily (Brian) Grose of Horseheads, NY, and Claire (Jared) Osterli of Dallas, TX, great grandson, Rory Grose, a sister, Linda Blaney of New Jersey, daughter-in-law, Maureen (Charles) Kohnken of Horseheads, NY, and his nieces and nephews, Robert (Cassandra) Blaney, Jennifer (Kevin) Kropf both of Canton, Cord (Lisa) Blaney of Williamstown, NJ and close friends Dan and Denise Walker.
Besides his parents Chuck was predeceased by a son, Alan Blaney, brother, and sister-in-law, Gary (Claudia) Blaney, sisters and their spouses, Emma Jane (Frank) Kreamer, Beverly (David) Toro, June (Donald) Baldwin, a nephew, Gregory Baldwin and his ex-wife, Esther (Mitzie) Mosher.
In keeping with Chuck's wishes there will be no services. Burial will be held in Bradford County Memorial Park Cemetery in Towanda. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements.
