Harold Hopkins, 76, of Roaring Branch, PA passed away Tuesday evening, June 18, 2013, at Williamsport Hospital.
Born on May 2, 1937 in Williamsport, Harold Raymond "Hal" Hopkins was a son of the late Harold Hopkins, Sr. He was a member of the 1955 graduating class of Canton High School. In 1956, Hal served in the U.S. Army in Korea for a year. He later earned a bachelors of Science degree in education from Seaton Hall in South Orange, NJ. On October 10, 1964, he married the former DorothyDolobachin Elizabeth, NJ. They shared 49 years together and raised three children.
Hal was employedas Vice President ofPrudential Insurance Asset Management for more than 35 years until retiring in 1995. His memberships included Canton's St. Michael's Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister, served on their finance committee and was a member of their Knights of Columbus, Canton's Lions Club and V.F.W. Post 714 and a member of the CASD school board.
Hal was happiest when working on one of his many projects. He was a "jack of all trades" type who could work on vehicles and make household repairs. He also was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying farming, gardening, hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; children, Christopher (Eileen) Hopkins of Durham, NC, Daniel (Donna) Hopkins of Rock Hill, SC and Jennifer (John) Capillo of Riverside, NJ; four grandchildren, Quinn and Maya Hopkins, Jonathan Hopkins and Jack Capillo; a sister, Donna (Donald) Williams of Mendon, VT.
Hal's family invites friends to call 12 – 2 p.m. Friday at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr. Canton and on Saturday, June 22, from 11 – noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Canton. Those who wish may make memorials in Mr. Hopkins's name to Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers, c/o M. Jannone CASD 139 E. Main St. Canton, PA 17724.
