Obituary

Howard Route, 89, of Liberty, formerly of Canton and Roaring Branch, PA, passed away peacefully, early Wednesday morning, April 5, 2023, at UPMC Williamsport Hospital. Born Howard James Route on December 2, 1933 in Roaring Branch, he was one of three boys of the late James F. and Sylvia E. (Day) Route.

Howard attended Liberty Area Schools and later was employed as a truck driver by Smith Truck Lines in Williamsport. On November 22, 1989 he married the former Elizabeth Cox in Ogdensburg, Betty preceded Howard in death in 2006 following 17 years of marriage.

He later accepted employment at the former Canton Manufacturing where he worked for many years until his retirement in 1996.   He was a member of Ralston Fire Company-Station 17 as well as the NRA.

Howard was an outdoorsman and especially loved fishing. In his trucking years, he enjoyed talking on his CB and could often be found at home doing the same. Howard was a quiet, intelligent individual who could talk on an array of different subjects.

Surviving is his daughter, Teresia Route of Liberty, a sister-in-law, Joan Route, special cousins, Gordon (Dawn) Route all of Roaring Branch, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents and wife, Howard was predeceased by three brothers and a sister-in-law, Dean (Bernice) Route, Melvin Route and infant, Franklin Route.

Services and burial in Union Cemetery, Liberty Township will be private and at the convenience of the family. The Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with final arrangements.
