Obituary

Jane L. (Foust) McMurray, 83, long-time resident of Canton, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026, Mother’s Day, where she left this world to be reunited with her beloved daughter and mother. Jane Louise was born on December 31, 1942, she was the daughter of the late James “JD” and Ida Belle (Smith) Foust. She attended Canton Area schools and graduated with the Class of 1960, the first class to walk across the stage of the Nelle Black Westgate Auditorium to receive their CHS diploma.

Jane was always a hard worker. In her early years she worked as a teller at the former First Bank of Troy. She married Clifton “Cliff” McMurray in 1961 and became a devoted dairy farm wife, helping with every part of the daily operations while being blessed with raising their five children. Over the years she also worked at Canford’s, served as a caregiver and nursing assistant, sold Avon, and above all was a terrific mom and the steady matriarch of her family.

Jane was a talented, crafty woman who enjoyed ceramics and sewing. She was an avid bowler and spent many years in leagues at Canton Lanes and the former Willow Lanes in East Canton. She loved the outdoors, took great pride in keeping her lawn perfectly mowed, and in her earlier years enjoyed spending time hunting.

Jane leaves behind her children; Mark McMurray, Cindy (David) Brown, Tina (Jerry Jr.) Ross and Hope (Benny III) Thompson all of Canton, grandchildren; Andrew McMurray, Becca (Codie) Ross, Macy McMurray (Adam Reaser), Chasity (Jim) Murphy, Laura Myers (Stephen Sherba), Samantha Brackman (Kenyon Slater), Kyle (Shandi) Thompson and Nathan Thompson, step grandchildren; Jerilyn (Kyle) Landis, Jessica (Matt) Hamilton and Jeremy (Raegan) Martin, 10 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Jane was predeceased by a daughter; Lisa Myers, grandsons; Ryan Myers and Josh Brown and her siblings; William and Richard Foust.

Maintaining to Jane’s wishes, services and burial will be private. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements.
