Obituary

John Edward 'Jack' Covert, 82, of Ralston, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 19, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Catherine (Pongratz) Covert.



Born August 3, 1936 in Somerville, Somerset County, NJ, he was the son of Abram and Grace (Drake) Covert. He was one of eleven children.



Jack attended the Millstone School in Somerset and went on to own two successful businesses; Covert's Excavating, Somerset and Jack's Place, Ralston. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, The Red Run Rod and Gun Club, The Wheel Inn Private Club, The Somerset Volunteer Fire Com­pany, where he was an officer for many years, the Franklin Farmer's Hunting Club and a strong supporter of the National Rifle Association.



Jack was an avid outdoors man in his younger years who enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watch­ing, tending to his gardens and using his farming skills learned early in life on the family farm. He loved to be outside "tinkering" and fixing things.



In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by three children; Kenny Covert (Anne Marie) of Som­erset, NJ; Kim Black (Darryl) and Kris Covert (Amanda) all of Ralston; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and three sisters.



In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by a grandson, Andrew Covert, three brothers and four sisters.



A private service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
