Obituary

John A. Muto, 92, respectededucator and long-time resident of Blossburg, PA passed away, Tuesday evening, December 22, 2020 at Broad Acres in Wellsboro.



John Angelo was born in Carbondale (Lackawanna County, PA) on November 20, 1928 a son to Salvatore and Mary Scalzo Muto. He graduated in 1947 from Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale. High School athletic highlights include being selected to the All StateBasketball team and pitchinga perfect game at Scranton's Memorial Stadium.Following graduation, John honorablyserved our country with the US Air Force during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1954, he attended Mansfield State Teachers Collegeand received his Bachelors of Science degree in Social Studiesand Geography.On August 23, 1958, John married, the love of his life,Romaine Lutomski at the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Morris Run. They Shared 59 years of loving marriage before Romaine's death on March 18, 2017. Mr. Muto continued his education with Post Graduate work at Bucknell University and Cortland State College.



During his 33-year teaching career at North Penn Jr.- Sr. High School in BlossburgMr. Muto taught countless students in Social Studies and Geography until his retirement in 1991. In earlier years, John was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, later Holy Child Parish, conferred as a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus in 1965. John was an avidgolfer, bowlerand later in life enjoyed walkingat Island Park.He was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees.



John is survived by: two children; John Muto of State College, Melinda (Dave) Moshier of Pine City,two grandchildren;Lindsey (Ash) Tice of Elmira and 1st LT Peter Muto of Ft. Stewart GA,a great grandchild; Skyler, his "daughter #2";Sharon Manikowski of Blossburg, nieces';Lisa Owens of Colorado, Michelle Russell of Virginia and Pam (Bryant) Palmore of Virginia.



Besides his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by siblings; Carmella, Peter and Frank Muto, sisters-in-law; Linda Lutomski and Patricia (Tom) Owens.



Due to the currentpandemic there will be no public services at this time. A private graveside service with Father Bryan Wright will be held in the St. Andrew's Cemetery in Blossburg at the convenienceof the family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated and announced at a later date.

The family would like to include a heartfelt thanks to the community of Blossburg for their generous acts of kindness. We deeply appreciate the many friends, neighbors, and former students who compassionately and selflessly gifted Dad with friendship and thoughtfulness.
