Joyce Saunders, 85, of Canton, PA peacefully passed away while surrounded by her loving family on Saturday evening, December 3, 2016 at the Gatehouse in Williamsport.

Born August 1, 1931 in Forksville, Joyce Marie was the last surviving child of seven in the family of the late Ray and Emily (Porter) Shadduck.On December 21, 1949, she and Gerald E. Saunders were married in Grover.They were blessed with three children and shared 66 years together. Joyce retired from Canton Area School District's Cafeteria after 20 years of service in 1993. She was a member of the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton, Canton's Women of the Moose Lodge 981 and the Canton Volunteer Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary.

Joyce had many interests and talents in life, but her main enjoyment came from her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.Helping others was also important.She was a great cook and an excellent baker; her cookies and special occasion cakes were always favorites of family and friends.Joyce often sewed, crocheted and quilted.She also liked to collect angels, in earlier years she enjoyed camping and square dancing.

She is survived by her beloved husband Gerald, her son, Barry (Gerry) Saunders of Leroy; daughters, Diana (Donald) Packard and Deborah (Dale) Huffman all of Canton; six grandchildren, Russ Freeman, Shawn Packard, Nicole Allen, Denise Schrader, Bryan Huffman and Emily Huffman, 19 grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.Joyce was predeceased by five sisters and a brother.

Calling hours are 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday and 11 – 12 p.m. Friday, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton.Rev. Nancy Beahm will officiate the funeral service at noon on Friday, Dec. 9.Interment will follow in Beech Flats Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial in Joyce's name to the Green Free Library, 38 N.
