Kenneth E.
Gehman
September 30, 1931 – September 23, 2012
Kenneth Gehman, 80, of Shunk, PA was called home to heaven on Sunday morning, September 23, 2012 at his home.
Kenneth Earl was born on September 30, 1931 in Lancaster County, PA. He was a son of the late Charles and Martha (Yohn) Gehman. Ken was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving as a machine gunner with the First Calvary. He was the loving husband of the former Patricia Siehler, who he married on January 29, 1964 in Elkton, MD.
Ken graduated from the York Academy of Art. He was employed for22 years as a videographer and illustrator for the Custer National Forest in Billings, MT. He also enjoyed working as a freelance artist and asan actor appeared in several motion pictures including "Far and Away", "Son of the Morning Star" and "Missouri Breaks". Ken loved all animals and always adopted dogs who needed a home. He enjoyed doing many things, especially sharing times with family and friends, art and sketching, playing golf, fishing, camping and acting. Most recently, Ken attended the Shunk United Methodist Church, volunteered at Darway Eldercare Home and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Ken was the father and grandfather every child could only hope for; the perfect combination of friend, confidante, cohort and role model. His gentle kindness will never be forgotten along with his constant, quirky, dry and always smart sense of humor. The only thing larger than the void left from losing him are the hundreds of lessons of patience, love, loyalty and humility he has quietly taught his children and grandchildren. There will never ever be another "Grandpa Kenny"…the one…the only… the original.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 48 years, Pat; two daughters, Lauren Alvarez of Studio City, CA and Pamela Gehman of York; three grandchildren, Andrew Alvarez, Amanda Alvarez and Zack Gehman; two siblings; Russell Gehman of New Holland and Thelma Steffy of Ephrata; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Shunk United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 13 with Pastor Jerry Schmidt officiating. A time of remembrance and aluncheon will follow at the Endless Winds Fire Hall on Route 154. His family suggests that those who wish consider a memorial in Ken's name to Susquehanna Health Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd. Williamsport, PA 17701 or the Bradford County Humane Society, P.O. Box 179 Ulster, PA 18850. Pepper Funeral Home in Canton is assisting his family with arrangements.
