L. Marie Harris, 82, lifelong resident of Armenia Mountain, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at her residence. Marie was born July 21, 1942, in Troy, a daughter of the late Loren and Hazel (Dunbar) Harris. She attended Canton Area Schools and was a graduate of the class of 1961.
Marie worked on the family farm throughout life on her beloved Armenia Mountain homestead. In her younger years she drove bus for Canton Schools and worked for her Uncle Claude in the family's sawmill. Marie had a passion for gardening, especially vegetables. She enjoyed picking huckleberries and was a very talented baker. Playing cards and board games were some of her favorite past times.
Marie leaves behind her siblings; Pearl Harris of SD, and Sharon Hulslander of Ulster, sister-in-law; Marge Harris of Armenia Mt, nieces and nephews, Steve (Nicole) Harris of Armenia Mt., Loren "Stub" (Helen) Wilston of SD, Lyle (Sue) Thomas, Pam (Steve) Fowler all of Canton, Linda (Bill) Pierce of Troy, Brad Thomas of Armenia Mt., Peg Hartford of Shunk, Sheila Porter, Rich Porter both of Canton, , Kylie (Jerry) Slater of Ulster, great nieces and great nephews; Kristin (Ken Seavey) Thomas, Justin (Sara) Thomas, Jordan (Felicia) Thomas, Matthew Fowler (Anna Warunek), Taylor (Tina) Fowler, all of Rochester, NY., Nathan and Kaylee Pierce, Georgeanna Dunbar, Richie Porter, Stacy Hartford (Kat Brown) of Shunk, Rod (Amanda) Hartford of Canton and Nickie Jennings of LeRoy, Clark Slater, Harley Slater and McKenzie Slater.
Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by, three uncles, Lawrence, Claude and Lewis Dunbar, four sisters and their spouses, Phyllis Harris, Minnie Harris, Lila (Thomas) Thomas, Mable (Art Porter) (Bryce Shedden Sr) Shedden, a brother; Alfred "Bud" Harris, brother-in-law, Dick Hulslander, nieces, Cheryl Porter, Lynnette Hulslander, Elaine Harris and a great nephew Scott Jennings.
A celebration of Marie's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private in Alba cemetery and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Mrs. Harris's name may be directed to the Susan G.
