Larry W. Bassett, 71, of Granville Summit, PA (Leroy Twp.) passed away unexpectedlyFriday Morning, September 9, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
Larry Wayne Bassett was born in Canton, PA on November 12, 1944.He was one of four children of the late Ardell and Marletta (Rhodes) Bassett.Larry was a 1962 graduate of Canton High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Larry was employed by Penelec for over 34 years, and retired as a technical supervisor.
He then enjoyed his dream of a lifetime job and established SeaDawg Charters, a fishing charter service, on Lake Ontario for eight years.
A great husband, father and grandfather, Larry was a mentor and the glue of the family.
He would offer help to anyone in need.Larry enjoyed life and lived every day to its fullest.An outdoor enthusiast, he loved to fish, hunt, camp and boat.Larry also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, especially Texas Hold'em and watching old western movies.
He was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge 429, American Legion Post 42 in Towanda and a former member of the Wysox Kiwanis.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 15 years, the former Georgia "Peachie" Edwards; sons, David (Patricia) Bassett of Gillett and Todd Bassett (Fiancée' Kelly Scheithauer) of Towanda; step-children, Jody (Chris) Kelley of Carlisle, David (Niki) Atherton-Ely of Leroy and Tara Vybiral of Pittsburgh, 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two siblings, Garry Bassett of Hughesville and Dawn Miller of Troy, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Nancy May; step-son, Ryan Atherton-Ely and his brother, Mike Bassett.
Calling hours are Monday evening, Sept. 12, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Pepper Funeral Home,578 Springbrook Dr. in Canton.Rev. Duane Taylor will officiate the funeral service at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Burial will follow in East Canton Cemetery. The family will provide flowers and suggest your consideration of a memorial in Larry's name to the Ryan's Hope Memorial Softball Tournament, c/o Ryan's Hope, 67 Charles St. Roaring Branch, PA 17765.
