Obituary

Lewis E. "Butch" Batterson, 83, a lifelong resident of Troy, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Born on September 21, 1941, in the very house where he passed, Lewis Edward was the beloved son of the late Willis and Geraldine (Smith) Batterson.

Affectionately known as Butch to most, he was a proud graduate of the Troy Area High School Class of 1959. Known for his unwavering work ethic, Butch held positions at Darylmple Gravel and Contracting in South Port, Nardes Paving in Elmira Heights, and more recently, Precision Pipeline where he worked as a truck driver and mechanic until retirement.

Butch was a devoted community member. He proudly earned his 65-year membership with the Troy Fire Department in March 2025 and was a lifetime member of both the Troy Vets Club and the Teamsters Union Local 529 in Elmira.

A true jack-of-all-trades, Butch had a passion for John Deere tractors and found joy in keeping his yard in pristine shape. Above all, his greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he cherished deeply.

Butch is survived by his children: Lissa (Mark) Chapdelaine, Tammy Jo (Leroy) Frost, James (Christy) Batterson, Douglas Batterson, and Sherri Kerr. His grandchildren: Matthew (Amanda), Tyler (Kaylee), Austin (Krystal), Sara Jo, Emily, Elliott, Colton, Devin (Angel), Korynn, Brooke, Anna, and Jesse. Great-grandchildren: Payton, Alaina, Taylyn, Lucas, Sophia, Charlie, and Colton. He is also survived by his sister Beverly (Bill) Smith, niece Sandy (Joe) Kisinger, nephew David Smith, and his loyal canine companions, Chase and Bo, along with many cherished friends.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Penny Lynn; his grandson, Daine; great-grandson, Bentley; his three wives; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
