Lorin “John” Overpeck, 79, of Canton, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday morning, July 3, 2026, while surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born July 9, 1946, in Towanda, a son of the late Jesse and Christine (Ellis) Overpeck. John graduated from Towanda High School with the Class of 1966. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1970.
On June 20, 1970, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Marie Colwell, in Nichols, NY. Together, they raised three daughters and shared 56 years of marriage.
John was a dedicated worker and skilled handyman who was employed by several area businesses before his retirement.
John was active in FFA and enjoyed gardening, farming, collecting antiques, fishing, hunting, and bowling. Above all, he cherished spending time with his beloved family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Jeanette, daughters, Lisa (Scott) of Monroeton, Debra (Lee) of Troy, Melissa (Brett) of Troy, grandchildren, Dakota, Cynthia, Edwin, Ashley, Jonathan and Chase, great grandchildren, Issabelle and Lathan, a sister, Lori Vester of Towanda as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a special caregiver Debra.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by a grandson, Dalton Walburn, his siblings, Jean Andrus, Charles Overpeck and his twin brother, Warren Overpeck, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edwin and Ruth Colwell and a brother-in-law, Richard Colwell.
The family invites friends to attend a celebration of John’s life on Sunday July 26, 2026, from 1p.m. to 4p.m. at the Canton Moose, 41 Sullivan St. Canton, PA. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s loving memory may be directed to the Guthrie Hospice or a Veteran’s charity or association of your choice.
