Luther E. Fitzwater, 82, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA passed away at his residence on Monday, October 20, 2025, while surrounded by the love of his family. Luther Eugene was born on December 7, 1942, in Sayre, a son of the late Ervin and Katherine (Kilmer) Fitzwater.

He was a 1960 graduate of Canton Area Schools. In 1964 Luther enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country for two years just prior to the Vietnam War. On October 16, 1998, Luther married the former Cynthia "Cindy" Watkins at their home in Alba and together shared 27 years of loving marriage. Always a hard worker, Luther was employed at the family farm during high school as well as, Mitstifer's Garage in Canton, Jones and Brague, Steve Fitch's Yamaha motorcycle dealership, drove trucks for KJ's and Al's Leasing, Canton Borough Police, Landon's Gas Station and their orchards, and most recently was a transport officer for the Bradford County Sheriff's Department until retiring.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Alba, where he was a former member of their Choir, the Canton VFW post 714 and Canton American Legion post 303.

Luther was a devoted outdoorsman who found joy in camping, hunting, and fishing. He took great pride in maintaining his property, keeping every detail in pristine condition. A lifelong enthusiast of motorcycles, he loved riding and restoring them in his spare time. Most recently, he could often be seen riding his Can-Am Spyder, continuing his life-long love of the open road and adventure. In his younger years, Luther pursued woodworking and raced both stock cars and dirt bikes with passion and skill. He also loved roller skating and played on the Al's Leasing Softball team. Luther was a terrific baker, especially cookies and pies and was well known for his peanut butter fudge. Gifted with a mechanical mind, he loved tinkering with anything that had moving parts.  Known for his quick wit and well-timed humor, Luther always had a joke ready to share. He cherished time spent with loved ones, especially going out to eat or just visiting with family and many friends.

Luther leaves behind his wife Cynthia, at home, sons; Kevin (Kari) Fitzwater of Gillett, and Keith Fitzwater of Wellsboro, daughter; Heather (Ken) Katona of Canton, step-daughter; Olga Summers, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings, Daniel Fitzwater of Alba, Carol Brown of Troy, Diane Allen of Indiana, Debra (Dan) Ward of East Smithfield, Karen (Gordon) Wesneski of Canton, brothers-in-law, Steve Barnes, Paul Brackman both of Canton, Frank (Ann) Campbell of Grover and Tom (Penne) Watkins of Canton, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful canine, Missy.

Besides his parents, Luther was predeceased by his sons, Kelly Fitzwater and Alex "Sasha" Summers, siblings and a brother-in-law, Iona (Andrew) Straka, Shirely Barnes and Nancy Brackman, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frederick and Virginia (Wooster) Watkins, brothers-in-law, Larry Brown and Frank Allen.

A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton with a funeral service following at 1 p.m. Burial will be held after in Beech Flats Cemetery in Canton Township with military honors accorded.
