October 22, 1936 – January 21, 2024
Lyle D. Monro, 87, of Columbia Crossroads, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Twin Oakes Personal Care Home in Granville Summit. Lyle was born October 22, 1936, in Sayre, a son to the late Archie and Catherine (Gates) Monro. He attended Troy Area Schools and was a graduate of the class of 1954. On July 9, 1954, Lyle enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country for 3 years. While stationed in Germany Lyle helped to move the first atomic weapon into Europe. On June 14, 1958, Lyle married the former Linda Tillinghast. Together they shared 65 years of loving marriage and raised five children. Lyle established Blue Clay Stock Farms in Columbia Crossroads in 1957. He was a very hard and dedicated worker, seeing to the daily operations of the farm until his retirement in 1994. Lyle was a member of the Troy American Legion post 49 & VFW post 8675 and a life member of the NRA.
Lyle enjoyed photography and in his younger years was a boy scout. He and Linda enjoyed wintering on the island of Lihue Kauai, Hawaii after his retirement from the farm.
Lyle leaves behind his wife Linda at home, children; Andrew (Kathy) Monro of Columbia Crossroads, LeeAnne Monro of Fl, Brian (Dayna) Monro of Succasunna, NJ and Angela (Timothy) Bowers of Milton, grandchildren; Holly, Derek, Taylor, Shannon, Wesley, Landon and Lindsay, great grandchildren; Holden, Bryson and Grant, a brother; Gary Monro and a sister; Gale (Larry) Bellows both of Sylvania as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins and his beloved canine companion Beau.
Besides his parents, Lyle was predeceased by a son; Keith Monro and a sister-in-law; Alexis Monro.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. A private burial will be held in Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lyle's name may be directed to the Troy Vets Club, 1 Veterans Drive, Troy, PA 16947.
