Obituary

Malcolm Kern, 92, well known Canton, PA resident passed away peacefully at his home on Monday morning, January 16, 2017 while surrounded by his loving wife Connie and his caretaker Eunice.
Born December 10, 1924 in Newark City, NJ, Malcolm Henry Kern, "Goose" was the oldest of two sons of the late Harry Carlyle and Florence Mildred (Carter) Kern.He attended Union High School in Union, NJ and enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly before graduation.A proud veteran of WWII, Malcolm served as a radioman and recruit trainer.
"Goose" was employed as a welder with General Motors in Clark, NJ for over 30 years until retiring.On July 15, 1972, he married the former Connie Landon in Canton's Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ).He was an active member of North Union Christian Church, serving on the board of trustees and as a Deacon.Goose had many hobbies, but his greatest loves were music and travel.He was interested in photography, tennis, golf, he and Connie rode bicycle often.Malcolm also enjoyed softball; he helped build the concession stand for the softball field at Cedar Ledge.
Surviving is Connie, his wife of 44 years, his brother, Jack (Florence) Kern of Lawrence Twp., NJ, two nieces; Florrie (Blair) Schreyer and Maureen (Jon) Spencer, three great nieces; Laura (Jake) Morgan, Jenni (Will) Weir and Sarah (Ryan) Martinez, two great nephews, Jack (Dominque) Spencer and Sam Spencer, two great-great nieces and two great-great nephews, three sisters-in-law; Sharon Hansell, Sandy (Jim) Rusk and Peggy Landon, nieces and nephew; Jodi (Brian) Peterson, Stephanie (Lucas) Douvier, Jennifer (James) Briggs and William (Elaine) Hansell, five great nieces and six great nephews, many dear friends and neighbors.
He was predeceased by a nephew, Brian Kern.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr. Canton.Rev Duane Taylor, his pastor, will officiate the funeral services at the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, with military honors accorded at the Church. A private family burial will be held on Saturday in the Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the North Union Christian Church, c/o 1404 Randall Rd. Roaring Branch, PA 17765 or to Guthrie Hospice, c/o 421 Tomahawk Rd.
