Obituary

Marcia L. (VanHorn) Martin, 90, a long-time resident of Granville Summit, peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Twin Oaks Personal Care Home.

Marcia was born on September 21, 1935, in Troy Township as one of five daughters to the late Luther and Leota (Baxter) VanHorn. She attended schools in the Troy area, graduating with the Class of 1953. On August 2, 1953, she married Henry Leamon Martin at the VanHorn family residence. Their marriage spanned 62 years, during which they raised five children. Mr. Martin predeceased her on August 13, 2015.

Marcia demonstrated a strong work ethic throughout her life, contributing to the operation of Shady Knoll Dairy Farm alongside her husband for many years. She held the position of Granville Township Tax Collector until her retirement. Marcia was affiliated with the Troy Grange and was an active participant in the Granville Center Church of Christ, where she will be remembered for playing the church's piano and organ. Additionally, she enjoyed attended the Leroy Independent Baptist Church.

Marcia embraced the responsibilities of farm life, actively assisting with dairy operations. She demonstrated considerable skill as a homemaker, cook, and baker, gaining recognition for her cookies and potato salad. Her interests included reading, quilting, crafting, and ceramics, and she was dedicated to community service. Marcia participated in the Granville Center Cemetery Association and consistently visited residents throughout the area. She distributed the Daily Bread devotionals and shared religious teachings during her visits. Her primary focus was her home and family, always ensuring their well-being.

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the most valued aspects of her life. Marcia is survived by her children: Lois (Frank) Harris of Bel Air, MD; Dale (Maria VanKirk) Martin of Middlebury Center; Sara (Bob) Hart of Cogan Station; David (Katherine) Martin and Dan (Jeanine) Martin all of Granville Summit. Additionally, she is survived by 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Henry, Marcia was preceded in death by four sisters.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Granville Center Church of Christ, 5753 Route 514, Granville Summit, PA 16926. A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Martin's life will follow at 12 p.m. with burial afterward in the Granville Center Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marcia's loving memory may be directed to the Granville Center Church of Christ or to the Leroy Independent Baptist Church, Operation Christmas Child Fund, 301 Mill Street, Canton, PA 17724.
