Martha "Martie" Sobocinski, 94, of Montoursville, formerly a long-time resident of Blossburg, PA peacefully passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018, at the Williamsport Hospital.
She was born on March 12, 1923, in Blossburg, PA, to John and Victoria (Kerchinski) Chaborek.She graduated from Blossburg High School in 1941 and began working at the local Ben Franklin Store.
On June 28, 1947, she married Francis W. Sobocinski and moved to Montoursville where he was stationed with the Pennsylvania State Police.They returned to Blossburg in 1953 where, except for a one year transfer to Punxsutawney, she resided until October 2014 when she moved to Elmcroft Assisted Living in Montoursville. Throughout her life, she held employment positions as a secretary, telephone operator, and store manager for J.P. Ward Foundries, Bell Telephone Company, Blossburg State Hospital, Westinghouse Electric, North Penn High School, and Widmann's Drug Store
She is survived by her daughter Marietta Schachtschneider (Al) of Boerne, TX and her son Jon Paul Sobocinski (Lori) of Downingtown, PA.Grandchildren include David Schachtschneider of Naperville, IL, Lee Schachtschneider of San Diego, CA,Grant Sobocinski of Downingtown, PA, and Leah Sobocinski of Downingtown, PA.Additional family members are her beloved niece Margaret (Edward) Hannan of Muncy, PA, great niece Suzanne Hannan of Muncy, brother John Chaborek of Painted Post, NY, and many nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law.Martha was predeceased by her husband Francis (1997), daughter Deborah (1964), and siblings Marion Skolny, Constance Taggart, Chester Chaborek, Charles Chaborek, and Walter (Jeff) Chaborek.
Calling hours are 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 24, at Pepper Funeral Home & Cremation Facility (formerly Zwicharowski's) 314 Granger St. in Blossburg.At 11 a.m. a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Reverend Bryan Wright at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Blossburg.Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made in Martha's name to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, 3401 Civic Center Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19104.Online condolences www.pepperfuneralhomes.com
