Obituary

Marvin B. Groff, 95, well-known and respected resident of Canton, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2026, at his residence. Marvin was born April 23, 1931, in Lancaster, the oldest of nine children born to the late Elias and Elizabeth (Bomberger) Groff. He attended Lancaster High School and graduated with the class of 1949. On July 11, 1953, Marvin married the former Dorothy Hege in the Lancaster area. Together, they shared 72 years of loving and devoted marriage and raised two sons.

In his earlier years, Marvin worked as a plumber in the Lancaster area. He later moved to the Canton area, where he began dairy farming while continuing his work in the plumbing trade. Marvin eventually owned and operated Groff’s Plumbing and Heating for many years until his retirement. He was also a member of North Street Community Church.

Marvin was an exceptionally hard worker and a man others could always depend on. Community-minded by nature, he was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. Above all, Marvin was a devoted family man, and spending time with those he loved was always most important to him. He especially enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides on his tractor, creating memories they will always cherish. Marvin also took great pride in his vegetable garden, a pastime that brought him many years of enjoyment.

Marvin is survived his two sons, Daniel (Cathy) Groff of Sarasota, FL, and DeVon (Sandra) Groff of Landisville, PA; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister; Irma, brother; Elias; a brother and sister-in-law, David (Arlene) Hege of GA; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Besides his parents, and wife, Dorothy, Marvin was predeceased by several siblings.

A celebration of Marvin’s life will be announced. Burial in Beech Flats will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements.
