On the evening of Friday, April 24th, 2026, Matthew “Matt” Keith Putnam, 38, of Troy, PA, passed away unexpectedly. Matt was born on November 12th, 1987, to Kim and Rose Putnam. Matt attended Canton Area School and graduated with the class of 2006. While in school, Matt excelled in sports, participating in football, basketball, and track. Matt’s love and drive in football had him as a starter on varsity his freshman year. After school, Matt was employed at many local businesses including Oakhill Veneer, Solaire Energy, and most recently as an Assistant Manager at the Troy Dollar General.
On June 21st, 2014, Matt married the love of his life, Carrie Colton. Together they shared almost 17 years and were approaching their 12th wedding anniversary.
Matt was well known in the community for his love of music. He sang in local rock cover bands—Invain, Six Sinns, and most recently A Promised Burned. He also enjoyed his acoustic duos with the Porch Light Prophets and Blessed and Broken. Matt also had a DJing business—Matty P Music and Sound. He continuously donated his time to local charities and benefits, Homecoming, and Martha Lloyd’s Proms.
Matt also had an incredible love for God and was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church. At church, Matt enjoyed being the sound guy as well as drumming and singing on the worship team. He loved his church family and enjoyed helping Pastor Mason and Pastor Jeff.
Matt’s greatest joy in life was his children, Gracie, Madden, and Eli. He enjoyed helping coach the Pee Wee football teams and watching them improve each year. He would never miss a game, and he could be heard cheering for his kids at sporting events, whether it was the football players or the cheerleaders. He encouraged each one of his children to strive to be the best they could be.
Matt’s love for his most recent job was seen throughout the community—whether it was carrying groceries to a customer’s car, paying for someone who was short on cash, or greeting each customer with his smile. He loved his DG family and making the store a better place.
Matt leaves behind his wife, Carrie Putnam, at home, along with his children, Gracie, Madden (Ally) and Eli; his parents, Kim and Rose Putnam; his brother Dusty (Jamie) Putnam; his nephew Logan Putnam; his nieces Millicent “Milli” Steves and Khaleesi Niles; and his beloved fur baby, Bella. He is also survived by many dear friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents William Mosley, Marilyn Mosely, Leon Putnam, and Betty Mosley, and his uncles Steve Putnam and David Mosley. Matt touched so many lives and will forever be remembered.
A time of visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. A celebration of his life will follow at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in his memory, donating to a local animal shelter or to the Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church, 6346 Berwick Turnpike, Columbia Cross Roads, Pa 16914. Memories of Matt and condolences to his family may be shared by visiting www.pepperfuneralhomes.com
