IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael S.
"Mike" Polly
August 8, 1927 – July 20, 2025
Michael S. Polly, a longtime resident of Troy and Sylvania, passed away at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
Mike was born August 8, 1927, in Forest City, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Michael and Anna Bolag Polly. He grew up in Browndale, Pa. Mike graduated from the Forest City School District, Class of 1945. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army Air Corps, stationed in Mississippi and Massachusetts. After serving his country, he enrolled in Linotype school in Hartford, CT. Mike then began his work career at the Troy Gazette Register as a typesetter and printer. At this time, he married his first wife, Mildred Para Polly, who passed away in 1984. His employment lasted nearly forty years, ending as a co-owner of the Troy Gazette with Ron Pine.
On October 17, 1987, Mike married Annabelle (Chrzan) Stanton. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage, until the passing of Ann in 2024. They spent their retirement traveling and, most significantly, enjoying time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether it was in their home, watching over the kids in their pool, or attending numerous sporting events, they were always there for the children.
Mike was a member of the American Legion and Corey Creek Golf Club. It was at Corey Creek that he enjoyed the company of his closest friends. Sunday mornings and Thursday afternoons would find a foursome of Mike, Charlie Schucker, Jack Kendall and Don Jones or 'Billybob' Murray. While the golf was interesting, it was their after round boisterous games of Euchre that drew the attention of all who happened to be in the club house!
Surviving Mike are his children Michael Polly (Alison) and Gary Polly (Rebecca), stepson Ed 'Stub' Stanton (Angie) and stepdaughter Sheryl Angove (William). Their grandchildren Kristen White (Donnie), William Angove Jr. (Jessica); John Angove (Sherri), Christopher Stanton (Chrissi); Alex Polly and Dr. Evan Polly. Great-grandchildren Craig (CJ) Stanton, Anni and Elli White: Leo and Max Angove: Cali Angove and Marlee, Toby, Lottie and Sunni Stanton.
In addition to Mildred and Ann, Mike was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Liebel, Ann Semosh, Mary Lehman, and Betty Burko; brothers William Lavicky and Nick Polly and grandson Craig E. Stanton.
Services and burial at St. John's Catholic Church will be private and at held the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements.
